The values in reconstruction produced a sense of disillusionment with the actions that took browse on the Western Front. The soldiers start to be beaten down, both emotionally and physically. They experienced beneficial starvation, attacks by rats in the trenches, long stretches of boredom, seeing death of friends, and separation from family and friends. War makes a man inhuman. War change people. It makes people numb to violence in society and slowly adapt to cynicism. After 3 years of mental and physical battle, the troops, like the veterans, who have lived under these situations even longer, become misanthropic.
